Trip description

From the car park of the Corno del Renon cable car near the village Pemmern

From the car park (there are disabled parking spaces available here) at the valley station, we take the Corno del Renon cable car in the direction of Punta Lago Nero at 2,071 m. The use of the cabins with the wheelchair is possible by a metal ramp, which can be hooked in at short notice. The staff of the cable car is very helpful here, so getting into the cabins is no problem. However, the cabins are not particularly large, so there is little space left next to the wheelchair and the traction device. Once at the top station of the cable car, you can leave the cabins backwards with a metal ramp, which is also hooked in by a staff member. The restaurant/guest house “Schwarzseespitze” is located directly at the top station with a spacious meadow directly in front of the restaurant. From here you have a wonderful view of the Dolomites.

From the restaurant/guest house “Schwarzseespitze” to Rifugio Feltuner

We now start in the direction of the Mount Corno del Renon on the trail no. 19, which is a little difficult to find at the beginning. After a short time, you can either continue straight on along trail no. 19 towards the Rifugio Unterhornhaus (2,042 m) or turn right towards the Kneipp-basin trail or water catchment basin. As trail no. 19 was being rebuilt at that time and was therefore closed, we decided to take the alternative via the water catchment basin and so after about half an hour we reached the Rifugio Unterhornhaus and a short time later Rifugio Feltuner (at a major crossroads follow the signs to the right on path no. 1). Up to now, the path has been quite moderate with a maximum gradient of 10%, whereby the section from the water catchment basin to the crossing was relatively rocky.

On to the peak of the mount Corno del Renon

Shortly after the Refugio Feltuner, which we leave to the right, the path becomes a bit steeper with 13%, which soon settles again. On the left, one can now admire the Ortles Alps distantly. Following the forest road (No. 2), we can take a look and enjoy the panorama of the Alps. With a maximum of 10%, the forest road winds its way over the blooming Alpine plateau. After about 3/4 we reach another crossroads, where you can turn left to reach the Alpe di Villandro. But we keep to the right in the direction of the Mount Corno del Renon, and now we have the last ascent of the hike in front of us, which is still moderate with up to 15%. However, the path becomes somewhat narrower and the gravel somewhat coarser, which is why the last section of the road just in front of the mount Corno del Renon should be driven backwards. Once you have reached the Mount Corno del Renon, you will be rewarded once again with an incredible view (the last part to the Refugio Corno del Renon is unfortunately not shown on the hiking map).

Return to the valley station of the cable car in Pemmern

From the Rifugio Corno del Renon, the same path leads us back to the crossroads just before the Rifugio Unterhornhaus. But the way back is by no means boring, as you can now enjoy the other side of the mountains – the view to the Dolomites. At the intersection, we continue straight on to the forest road (here still signposted with path no. 1). After a few 100 m, trail no. 1 leads off to the left, but we stay on the forest road, which is now indicated with no. 4 on the signs. This leads us first over a beautiful alpine meadow and then through a picturesque forest towards the valley station of the cable car. Most of the time the path winds through the forest with a pleasant gradient of up to 10%, but the forest path also leads in hairpin bends and sometimes with up to 20% gradient towards the valley At the end of the forest road we meet an asphalted path, which we follow to the left along a biotope to the valley station.

Accompanying person

An accompanying person is only needed on the steeper passages with regard to pushing assistance, but the trip can also be taken without an accompanying person.
