Trip description
From the mountain station of the Seiser Alm up towards Spitzbühl
At the Mountain station Seiser Alm Once arrived, we take the path straight ahead over the bridge (towards the Puflatsch/Panorama cable car) and follow the path for a short distance before turning right behind the restaurant to Compatsch. We walk through Compatsch and at the bottom of the crossroads take the asphalted path no. 7 straight on in the direction of Hotel "Panorama. The 1 km is quite steep with a gradient of up to 15%, but the asphalt makes it easily passable.
On the right side we now find the first signpost and we now follow hiking trail no. 10 in the direction of Spitzbühl/Saltnerhütte. Here the surface changes from asphalt to hiking trail with fine to coarse gravel and the incline of approx. 10 % remains for the time being. Along the hiking trail no. 10 there are now again and again short sections with approx. 10 % gradient partly coarse gravel or also thick stones in the way. However, these can often be easily bypassed, for example by riding on the grass-covered roadside. Shortly before you reach the Spitzbühl plateau, there is a somewhat steeper section that may have to be driven backwards, as the tractor - depending on the equipment - has too little grip forwards.
The following part is comfortable with about 5 %. At the crossroads, we turn right onto trail no. 5a in the direction of Spitzbühlhütte.
From Spitzbühl down towards Saltnerhütte
We only follow trail no. 5a for a short distance, but as the trail is well-maintained and leads slightly downhill, we can enjoy the wonderful view of the alpine pasture and of South Tyrol here. After a short while we come to another junction and turn left here onto trail no. 5. This trail leads us downhill in the direction of Saltnerhütte. Gradients of up to 12 % are possible here, but many places are easily passable despite the gradient due to concrete lanes. The concrete lanes alternate with fine gravel. After about 5.4 km we reach the Saltnerhütte. In order to be able to enjoy the terrace, however, we have to master one last incline - preferably backwards.
The way back follows the same route as the way there.
Trail conditions
At the beginning asphalted road. Then follows a hiking trail section with quite coarse stones before it then continues on a well-built forest road with fine gravel. From Spitzbühl in the direction of Saltnerhütte, roughly asphalted lanes have been directed, primarily to facilitate the approach in winter.
Directions
From Bolzano or Bressanone in the direction of Siusi/Alpe di Siusi (Brennero state road, turn off at Waidbruck or Blumau). In Siusi park at the cable car and from there take the cable car up to the Alpe di Siusi (Compatsch). The road to the Alpe di Siusi is closed to private traffic from 9:00 to 17:00. Wheelchair users who do not wish to take the cable car can, however, enquire at the tourist office about a special permit.
Time requirement
Round trip approx. 2.5 to 3 hours.
Difference in altitude
Approximately 260 metres of altitude are covered on the route.
Suitable wheelchair
- Wheelchair with traction device
- off-road power wheelchairs
Accompanying person
An accompanying person should be taken along depending on the towing equipment. The hiking trail section has quite coarse gravel and sometimes there are thick stones in the gravel. Here it may be necessary to drive around the stones (for example by driving on the edge of the grass in sections) or - depending on the gradient - it may also be necessary to drive backwards. An accompanying person may be needed to help navigate or push the bike.

Level of difficulty
Medium
Explanation
Due to the in parts less developed paths with partly rough stones and the gradients of up to 11 %, the tour cannot be ridden independently depending on your condition & handicap and is therefore a tour for advanced riders with an accompanying person.
Resting facilities
Saltnerhütte
Tested:
- Saltnerhütte ( 1.825 m): The wooden terrace of the Saltnerhütte has a small step. Due to the gravel floor in front of it, there are places where the step is not so high. Both the interior and the terrace can be accessed with a wheelchair. Unfortunately there is no barrier-free toilet in the hut.
Accessible toilet
In the Mountain station Alpe di Siusi cable car there is a barrier-free WC, which is located in the lower part of the building and can be reached by lift.
