Trip description

From the car park at Bagni di Lavina Bianca to the picnic area

We start at the well-developed hikers‘ car park in Bagni di Lavina Bianca and follow the asphalt road that runs above the village and already promises the first beautiful views of the Catinaccio mountain range. The path is marked here with No. 6. After about 500 m and a moderate ascent of max. 10% we reach a gate and thus the transition from asphalt to the forest road.
Shortly after the gate, the path splits into No. 6, and No. 4 A. We follow path no. 4 A, which now becomes a bit more demanding with up to 15% gradient and fine white gravel. The view of the Catinaccio makes up for this, but you have to turn around from time to time. After about 900 m from the starting point and an average gradient of 10% to 15%, we reach the picnic area with a nice wooden bench and carvings.

From the picnic area through the forest

After a short rest, the most difficult part of the tour follows. This is because, on the one hand, the next section runs through the forest and is, therefore, a bit colder and, on the other hand, this section has the steepest gradient. Approx. 100 m after the picnic area you enter the forest and the first section of approx. 100 m has a gradient of up to 22%. As the gravel here also changes to rather coarse gravel and the path is partly tired out by rain, reversing makes sense here as the traction device has a better grip. After the 100 m, the serpentines begin, which makes the gradient of up to 15% much more pleasant again. A cattle gate must be opened at the end of the forest section.

From the forest to the pond Wuhnleger

Just behind the cattle gate, now back on meadows, the path 4 A climbs with fine, white gravel and a gradient of 10% to 18% up to the crossroads where you can turn off towards the Rifugio Cavone-Tschafon, a beautiful hut for shelter. Here you will also find the first reference to the fire pond – a bench with an engraved name. 1.7 km after the start of the tour now follows the easiest section. We leave the bench and the crossroads towards Rifugio Cavone-Tschafon on the right and follow the path straight ahead with a maximum gradient of 8% up to the fire pond Wuhnleger. The floor covering is also more comfortable to drive on here, however, it can be quite muddy after rain showers. After about 2 km we reach the pond Wuhnleger.

The same way back.

Explanation

There is a short section with a gradient of up to 22%, but the rest of the hike is rather moderate and relatively easy to follow due to the good condition of the path. Assistance from an accompanying person is only necessary on steep gradients due to the loss of grip of the traction device and on rough gravel.
For inexperienced drivers, the tour should be done after a dry period, otherwise, a lot of mud and mud is to be expected.
