Trip description
Up to the Pichlberg by cable car
The use of the cable car is almost the most difficult part of this tour. The parking lot of the orbit is asphalted and the orbit is therefore easy to reach. The entrance and ticket office area is designed barrier-free.
However, getting into the cabins is difficult as the cabins only have a door opening of 68 cm and a height difference of 22 cm has to be overcome as the cabins are suspended in the air and no ramp is available.
For the transport of persons in wheelchairs, it is possible in some cabins to fold up the seat benches and thus create more free space (120 x 120 cm).
There is also a height difference of approx. 20 cm to overcome on the way out.
Our trekking wheelchair unfortunately did not fit through the cabin doors, so we had to remove the wheels. I.e. first move into the cabin, then remove the wheels and put the two wheels and the seat of the wheelchair with in the cabin. Since we also had a towing device with us, we took two cabins.
The staff was very helpful and lent a hand both at the bottom station and at the top station. The cable car was stopped for the time.
It is therefore advisable not to use this option in the high season.
From the mountain station to the Getrumalm
Below the Mountain restaurants Pichlberg starts trail no. 9, which looks very steep and adventurous when viewed from above. The first section has a gradient of up to 20 %, but is easily manageable thanks to the gravel and the expansion for jeeps. We follow trail #9, leaving trail #8 on the right after about 80m. The path continues downhill for about 500 m with the same gradient, until after about 1 km we again come to a junction. Here we now turn left onto trail no. 11/A, which now has a short uphill gradient of 300 m with up to 15 %. After that, the path winds its way through the Sarntal Alps with short gradients (up and down) with up to 10 %. After about 2.5 km from the mountain station, we meet the Urlesteig trail, which comes from the left and joins our trail to form trail no. 11. We follow the alpine path until we meet the forest road to the Getrumalm, which we follow to the left in the direction of the Getrumalm (path no. 7). After About 3.6 km from the mountain station we reach the Getrumalm.
Return to hiking trail no. 7, which we follow to the valley station of the cable car.
Tour without orbit
It is also possible to do the tour without the cable car and instead use a different approach route to the Getrumalm. Drive directly above the valley station in the direction of hiking trail no. 7 and the Herz Jesu Way of the Cross, then continue along the Way of the Cross, as trail no. 7 becomes somewhat uneven. After approx. 1 km, however, hiking trail no. 7 and the Way of the Cross meet again. After another approx. 1 km, follow the Almweg trail to the left in the direction of Sunnolm follow (now hiking trail no. 9) and shortly before the Sunnolm turn right in the direction of Getrumalm (hiking trail no. 9).
Trail conditions
Continuous alpine path, which was broadly developed and with fine to coarse gravel was worked up. The alpine pastures located here can be reached by car via these paths.
Directions
From Bolzano in the direction of the Sarntal valley. Through the Sarntal valley to Reinswald. There, above the village, to the valley station of the Reinswald cable car (well signposted).
Handicapped parking spaces are available at the valley station.
Time requirement
Approx. 3 hours from the mountain station back to Reinswald.
Difference in altitude
It goes about 100 m uphill and about 700 m downhill.
Suitable wheelchair
- Wheelchair with traction device
- off-road power wheelchairs
Accompanying person
For the use of the orbit should be in any case an escort. Otherwise, the paths are very well developed, so that a pushing aid i. d. R. should not be necessary. Nevertheless, the slopes are not to be despised and four eyes simply see more than two.

Level of difficulty
Medium
Explanation
The tour has gradients of up to 20% and the use of the orbit is not feasible without outside help. In addition, a powerful traction motor should be used to master the slopes.
Resting facilities
Mountain restaurant Pichlberg, Getrumalm, Mountain restaurant Sunnolm, Pizzeria Bärenstube, Almschank Chrust Gepatsch
Tested:
- Mountain restaurant Pichlberg ( 2.130 m): The mountain restaurant was recently modernized and expanded. The restaurant can be accessed by wheelchair via a small detour along the right side of the house (there are steps directly in front of the entrance) and is very spacious inside. The wooden terrace is also accessible by wheelchair.
- Mountain restaurant Sunnolm ( 1.837 m): The terrace is accessible without steps and has a wooden decking. The rustic restaurant can also be accessed. Unfortunately, some of the seats in the restaurant are on raised wooden platforms, which is why they cannot be reached by wheelchair. However, there are also seats that can be accessed at ground level.
- Getrumalm ( 2,094 m): The terrace has a floor covering of coarse to fine gravel and is therefore rather difficult to drive on with small wheels. On the left side of the mountain pasture is a terrace section with a wooden floor. This is reached via the gravel section. With a traction motor or larger wheels, driving over the gravel is no problem. The Alm itself can be driven over a small step (narrow stone slab), but the door is quite narrow and the interior is also quite small and narrow.
Accessible toilet
A barrier-free toilet is available at the valley station of the Reinswald cable car.
A barrier-free toilet is also available in the top station.
There are no grab bars in either toilet.
