From the starting point Galileistraße along the Tappeiner-Promenade
From Merano, several paths lead to the Tappeinerweg, which starts about 100 metres above the valley basin on the slope of the Küchelberg's along Gratsch meanders. The part directly above Merano is also called the Tappeiner Promenade. We start at the entrance in the Galileistraße. Here the well-maintained hiking trail first leads with up to 11 % gradient in serpentines up to an altitude of 365 m. There are always beautiful corners to linger. The Tappeiner Promenade or Tappeiner Path was laid out in 1892 at the instigation of the spa doctor, anthropologist and botanist Franz Tappeiner. The pioneer had recognized early on that Merano had to expand its offerings and rely on innovative methods such as the "terrain cure" based on light exercise if it wanted to survive as a health resort. At the end of the serpentines we turn right and follow the path towards the Saxifraga restaurant until we reach the monument to Franz Tappeiner. A short time later we pass the herb garden and finally, passing the Powder Tower, we reach the Zenoberberg road. Here the Tappeinerweg ends and we follow the Gilfpromenade down to the river Passer, on the banks of which are the winter & summer promenades of Merano.
Back along the winter & summer promenade
The Gilfpromenade takes its departure from Stone footbridgethe oldest bridge Merano'swhich spans the Gilfschlucht gorge in a high arch and thus Gilf- with the summer promenade connects. To get to the Steinernen Steg, follow the Gilfpromenade from the Zenoberberg road in serpentines down to the Passer. The shady summer promenade on the orographically left bank of the Passer, built in 1866, begins at the Postbrücke bridge and extends from there to the Steinernen Steg. It owes its name to the partly ancient, mighty trees that line the path and provide refreshing cooling, especially in summer.
We walk along the summer promenade, past the imposing Roman bridge and change at the second, passable bridge to the right bank of the Passer and thus to the so-called winter promenade, which leads us past the Wandelhalle back towards the old town.

Directions
From Bolzano via the expressway MeBo to Merano. In the city there are various Disabled parking available. It is best to find a place near the old town (e.g. Galileo Galilei Straße or Rennweg).

Accompanying person
When using a towing device, an accompanying person is generally not necessary. The access path to the Tappeinerpromenade is laid out in serpentines and is therefore easily passable. The curves may be a little narrow and - depending on the size of the wheelchair - you may have to go backwards and forwards.
Without a traction device or electric drive, an escort is required.

Explanation
The paths are well developed and there are only a few gradients to overcome on the route. With a good traction motor, the entire route can be ridden without an escort. The gradients are max. 11 %.

- Partanes Restaurant: The restaurant is located directly in the old town of Merano. The generously designed interiors as well as the beautiful outdoor terrace on the cathedral square are barrier-free. There is a disabled parking space in the immediate vicinity.
- Hellweger's Restaurant/Pizzeria: The restaurant is located in a picturesque courtyard in the old town of Merano. The restaurant is barrier-free. The restaurant and the pizzeria are located in different parts of the building, which are connected by a corridor. There is a slight incline of up to 7 % to the restaurant.
- Restaurant Kallmünz: The Restaurant Kallmünz is part of the ensemble of Kallmünz Castle from the 16th century. The dining room and the terrace are designed barrier-free. Barrier-free toilets are located in the men's area. To get to the garden and the playground, a step must be overcome.
Accessible toilet
Barrier-free public toilets are located in Merano at the Rectory, in which Lobby, in which Freedom Road (with Euro key) and in the Galilei Street (with Euro key).
Barrier-free toilets are available at the listed refreshment stops, which can be used if you eat accordingly.
